Exports

Updated over 2 weeks ago

We offer several ways to export your data from the tool. Follow these links for complete walkthroughs for exporting from each feature:

Find exports by clicking Settings > Latest Exports:

XML export

The XML export is a full export of your company’s database. It contains regular cycle data, as well as data you may not normally have access to when using Small Improvements. So for security, the XML export is not enabled by default in your account; contact our support team to enable it. The XML export is specifically designed to help administrators retrieve historical data in a structured format, making it suitable for integration with other systems or for detailed data analysis.

Additionally, you need both HR Admin and Tech Admin permissions to create and download the XML export. With this enabled, you’ll have the option of exporting cycle data to XML format as well. If you lack Tech Admin permissions, coordinate with a colleague who has the appropriate rights to either trigger the export or grant you access.

Once we turn it on for you, you’ll find the export link by navigating to Settings > Company Settings.

Troubleshooting XML Export Issues

If you encounter issues while performing a full XML export, follow these steps:

  1. After clicking “Full Export to XML,” you're taken to the Latest Exports section.

  2. Check the list of recent exports. It may take a few minutes for the export to generate.

  3. Once the export is ready, it will appear as ZIP files grouped by feature. Download the files from the Latest Exports section.

Because this export is written in a markup language, it’s not very useful as a record of account activity. The XML file can be used to populate another system if you decide to leave Small Improvements. The structured format of the XML file ensures compatibility with various systems, making it a valuable tool for administrators managing data migration or integration tasks.
