This article explains how to clone objectives to other users and how to copy or move objectives between different cycles. Understanding these options helps managers efficiently assign common goals to multiple team members and manage objectives across various performance cycles, ultimately reducing administrative time and aligning goals across teams.
Cloning Objectives to Other Users
Objectives are typically specific to an individual. However, sometimes managers need to assign a common goal to multiple team members. In Small Improvements, "bulk assigning" an objective to multiple users is called cloning.
Cloning an objective duplicates it within the same cycle. If you need to duplicate an objective into a different cycle, refer to the "Copying Objectives" section below.
How Cloning Works
When you clone an objective, all its details: title, description, status, key results, and so on, are duplicated. However, any comments on the original objective will not be cloned.
Cloning Permissions
Your ability to clone an objective depends on your role:
HR Admins can clone an objective to anyone in the company.
Managers (without the HR Admin role) can clone an objective to their direct and indirect reports (their organizational branch).
Steps to Clone an Objective
To clone an objective, follow these steps:
Select the objective you wish to clone.
Click the Actions button for that objective.
Choose Clone To Users.
In the user picker, select the specific individuals you want to clone the objective to.
Click Select # Users.
A "Next Step: Confirm" dialogue box will appear, providing more information about the cloning action. After reviewing, click Clone Objective To # Users to initiate the cloning process.
Note: The Clone To Users button is only available if the objective's cycle allows you to create new objectives. You cannot clone an objective in a closed cycle or if the deadline for creating and editing objectives has passed.
Once an objective is cloned, the new objectives are independent copies. Changes to the original objective will not affect the cloned copies.
Copying Objectives to a Different Cycle
Copying an objective creates a duplicate of it in a different cycle. After copying, you will have two identical objectives, one in each cycle.
How to Copy an Objective
Select the objective you wish to copy.
Click the Actions button for that objective.
Choose Copy to another Cycle.
Note: The destination cycle must be active and within the time period allowed for creating new objectives. You can copy objectives from a closed cycle.
Moving Objectives to a Different Cycle
Moving an objective transfers it from its original cycle to a new cycle. The objective is removed from the first cycle and added to the second. All original details, including the due date, are retained.
The employee will be able to continue editing or updating the objective based on the new cycle's timeline dates.
How to Move an Objective
Select the objective you wish to move.
Click the Actions button for that objective.
Choose Move to another Cycle.
Note: Both the original and destination cycles must be active and within the time period allowed for creating new objectives.
