Cascading objectives help align company, group, and individual goals so everyone is working toward the same outcomes. Company objectives represent your organization's highest priorities, group objectives define how teams contribute to those priorities, and individual objectives capture each employee's contribution. Together, they create a clear hierarchy that helps employees understand how their work supports broader business goals.
This shared view improves transparency across the organization, helping employees stay focused on what matters most while giving leaders better visibility into progress, collaboration opportunities, and overall alignment.
Enable cascading objectives
Cascading objectives are enabled by default when creating an objectives cycle. You'll find the Cascading Objectives setting under Compose Objectives Features.
Tip: If you're introducing Cascading Objectives for the first time, start with a small test cycle to familiarize yourself with the workflow before rolling it out across your organization.
Create objectives
All objective types are created from the same place:
Go to Objectives.
Click + Create Objective.
Enter a title, description, due date, and, if needed, key results.
Select the appropriate Type.
The remaining fields depend on the type of objective you're creating.
Company objectives
Company objectives represent your organization's highest-level priorities.
Set Type to Company.
Assign the objective to the leader or administrator responsible for tracking its progress.
Tip: Many organizations assign company objectives to the CEO or a dedicated Company User to maintain consistent ownership over time.
Group objectives
Group objectives show how departments, teams, or cross-functional initiatives contribute to company objectives.
Set Type to Group.
Enter a group name, such as Sales or Product.
Select the relevant company objective as the parent.
Tip: We recommend that the person accountable for the objective, such as a department or team lead, create and own the group objective.
Note: Group names are fully customizable and don't need to match an existing department or team. They appear throughout the platform, including in reports and exports.
Individual objectives
Individual objectives capture each employee's contribution to higher-level goals.
Set Type to Individual.
Select the relevant group or company objective as the parent.
Tip: Managers and HR Admins can create objectives on employees' behalf. Whenever possible, encourage employees to create and maintain their own objectives to promote ownership and accountability.
View objective relationships
There are several ways to explore how objectives are connected across your organization.
Cascade View
The Cascade View provides a visual overview of how company objectives are supported by group and individual objectives.
Go to Objectives > Company.
Browse the Cascade View.
Note: The Cascade View remains empty until you've published at least one public company objective.
Objective details
Open any objective to view its relationships. The parent objective appears at the top of the page, while any supporting objectives are listed as child objectives.
List View
In List View, the Parent Objective is available as a column. You can group, filter, and search by parent objective to quickly find related objectives or review progress across a specific company or group objective.
