360 Feedback: Question types and questionnaire management

Create and manage 360° Feedback questionnaires, including question types, editing options, response limits, and templates for consistent feedback collection.

This article explains the different question types available in 360° Feedback cycles and how to manage your questionnaire. Choosing the right structure helps you collect meaningful, comparable feedback while keeping the experience clear for participants.

Add, edit, and remove questions

Add or delete questions

  1. Go to your cycle and click Edit Cycle Settings.

  2. Expand the Timeline section.

  3. Add or remove questions as needed.

Tip: Add new questions to the end of the questionnaire to keep reporting consistent across cycles.

Delete questions in a new cycle (not live yet)

  • Open your questionnaire.

  • Use the edit icon to remove or reorder questions.

Delete questions in a live cycle

  1. Open Edit Cycle Settings.

  2. Navigate to your questionnaire.

  3. Remove questions starting from the bottom and move upward.

Note:

  • The first question cannot be deleted once the cycle has started.

  • Deleting a question will remove any submitted responses tied to it.

Edit questions

  1. Click the pencil icon next to a question.

  2. Update wording, response options, or format.

  3. Enable Mandatory if needed.

  4. Click Save.

You can:

  • Edit or add answer options

  • Adjust scale labels

  • Make specific questions required

Question types

Use a mix of question types to balance structured insights with detailed feedback.

Headings

Add section headers to organize your questionnaire. Use headings to:

  • Group topics (e.g., performance, values, goals)

  • Provide instructions or context

  • Explain how to use rating scales

Free text

Allows respondents to write open-ended answers.

Best for:

  • Qualitative feedback

  • Strengths and development areas

  • Context and examples

Tip: Guide responses with clear prompts to make answers more actionable.

Multiple choice

Allows respondents to select one option. Best for:

  • Binary questions (yes/no)

  • Defined rating categories

  • Quick, structured input

Linear scale

Let respondents rate along a scale. Best for:

  • Measuring sentiment or agreement

  • Comparing feedback across reviewers

  • Identifying perception gaps

You can define:

  • Numeric scales (e.g., 1–5)

  • Custom labels (e.g., “Needs improvement” to “Excellent”)

Checkboxes

Allows respondents to select multiple options. Best for:

  • Identifying multiple strengths or development areas

  • Gathering input across several applicable areas

  • Selecting skills, competencies, or needs

Use templates for consistency

Create a template

  1. Go to the cycle overview page.

  2. Go to the Templates tab.

  3. Click +Create Template

  4. Enter a title and description.

  5. Add your questions.

  6. Click Save.

Tip: Use descriptive names so it’s easy to identify templates later.

Manage templates

  • Edit templates anytime

  • Toggle Enable to make them available

  • Reorder templates as needed

Use a template in a cycle

  1. Go to the Questionnaire section when creating a cycle.

  2. Select a template.

  3. Click Customize to adjust it before launch.

Note: You can still add, edit, or remove questions from a template before the cycle goes live by clicking Customize.
