Anytime Feedback: Requesting feedback on behalf of your team

Updated this week

Managers can use Anytime Feedback to gather insights about their direct reports from peers, cross-functional collaborators, or others across the company. This helps support development, guide performance conversations, and recognize contributions, all without waiting for a formal review cycle.

This article covers how to request feedback for someone on your team and how to track the status of those requests once they're sent.

Why request feedback on someone's behalf?

You might want to request feedback for a team member to:

  • Support an upcoming development or career conversation

  • Gather peer input after a project

  • Recognize someone's progress or contributions

  • Prepare for calibration or performance review cycles

Tip: You can include the employee as a reviewer if you'd like them to complete a self-assessment.

How to request feedback for a team member

  1. Click the ➕ shortcut button in the lower-left corner of the page

  2. Select Anytime Feedback

  3. Choose Request Feedback

  4. In the Reviewee field, select your direct report

  5. Add reviewers, questions (or use a template), set visibility, and send

You'll be guided through each step. For a detailed walkthrough, click here to view the employee instructions, which also apply when sending on behalf of someone else. For an in-depth explanation of visibility settings, including the "Anonymous answers" option, refer to the section below.

Understanding Visibility Settings

Visibility settings can significantly affect how feedback requests are tracked and viewed. Among these, the "Anonymous answers" setting stands out for ensuring respondent anonymity and concealing progress status from requesters. Below are key tips and scenarios related to these settings:

Tips for Managing Visibility Effectively

  • Review visibility options carefully: Ensure you understand how each setting will impact the feedback process.

  • Avoid unintended restrictions: If tracking progress is important, do not enable "Anonymous answers" for yourself.

  • Communicate with employees: Clarify privacy settings to prevent confusion among team members.

Visibility in Different Scenarios

  1. Requesters: Even admins cannot see progress if they have turned on "Anonymous answers."

  2. Non-requesting admins: Access is granted based on their own visibility permissions.

Anytime Feedback Dashboard

Once a request is sent, you can monitor participation and follow up if needed.

To view the dashboard:

  1. Go to Feedback from the side menu and select the Team tab

  2. Then toggle to Anytime Feedback

  3. You'll see:

    • All requests for your team

    • Participation and completion rates

    • Access to feedback where you have visibility

Viewing completed feedback

When feedback is submitted and released, you'll be able to read the responses based on the visibility settings you selected when setting up the request.

Everything: Provides full visibility into all response data, including reviewer identities, and detailed feedback content. This setting allows for complete transparency and unrestricted tracking of request progress.

Anonymous: You can view the feedback content, but reviewer names will be hidden. This setting ensures respondents' identities remain protected from the requester.

Nothing: You cannot view any responses or track the request’s progress/status. These details remain hidden even if you have administrative privileges, unless specifically granted visibility permissions.

Note: If the reviewee wasn't given visibility, the feedback won't be visible to them unless it's shared manually later.
